

He was born Oct. 19, 1944 in Springfield, the son of the late Carroll and Gwendolyn (Walsh) Grieme. David was a graduate of Lanphier High School, Class of 1962. He then attended Southern Illinois University earning an associate’s degree. After proudly serving his country in the United States Army, he continued his commitment serving 27 years in the Army National Guard, retiring as a Command Sargent Major of the 1144 Transportation Battalion.
He married Bunnie Marie Harbison in Springfield, Sept. 9, 1967 and she preceded him in death Dec. 17, 2012. He was also preceded in death by his son Kevin.
David was a project manager with the Capital Development Board, State of Illinois retiring after 40 years of service. He enjoyed meeting retirees from the board for breakfast and meeting his fellow National Guard retirees for lunch. He was a member of the Central Illinois Day Lilly Society. He and his wife Bunnie were charter members of Parkway Christian Church and was a current member of First Christian Church. He enjoyed golfing and deer hunting.
Surviving are his brother, Eugene (Janet) Grieme of Springfield, two sisters-in-law, Robin (Jim) Zaffiri and Bobette Furry both of Springfield, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Visitation and Service: The Grieme family will receive family and friends at the First Christian Church from 9:00am until the time of a funeral service at 10:30 am Friday, Dec. 15, 2017 Rev. Rick Irwin will officiate. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery where military honors will be conducted at the graveside.
Memorials: Those who wish may direct memorials to the Parkway Christian Church, First Christian Church or a charity of choice.
