Dave was born on June 8, 1960, in Springfield, the son of Carl E. and Verna L. (Jachino) Mayes. He married the love of his life, Kris Kemp, on March 7, 1994, in Las Vegas, celebrating with family and close friends.
Dave was a graduate of Lanphier High School. He was the proud co-owner of Mario’s Pizza alongside his dear friend, Lars Buchloh. Dave was a founding member of Panther Creek, assistant golf pro at The Rail, and a camp counselor for children with juvenile diabetes. His passion for golfing, photography, and telling stories was hard to top. The only thing he loved more was his family and they all loved him.
He served as an advisor, business strategist, confidant, golf coach, therapist, and comedian to not only his friends and family but to anyone that would listen.
He is survived by his wife, Kris Mayes of Springfield; his father, Carl E. Mayes of Girard; two siblings, Sheila (husband, Ron) Weed of St. Louis, MO and Mike (wife, Libby) Mayes of Silver Spring, MD; his mother-in law, Janet Kemp; his in-laws, Karin and Donnie Inman and Jeryl and Dave Schoepke; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family plans to host a celebration of life at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Attn: Memorials & Tributes, 1 N. LaSalle St., Suite 1200, Chicago, IL 60602. The family also asks that you consider being an organ donor in honor of Dave.
The family is being served by Butler Funeral Home-Springfield, 900 S. Sixth St., Springfield.
