He was born on June 19, 1945, in Wardell, MO, the son of Oscar and Louise (Cook) Owens.
David graduated from Bloomington High School in 1964, and took great pride in every role he embraced throughout his life. He was a devoted member of The Pentecostals of Springfield for more than 30 years, where he served as an elder and faithfully took on many responsibilities. He will especially be remembered for his card ministry of mailing all occasions cards to church members and friends as well as doing the signs outside the church, a meaningful part of his service that became a familiar and cherished sight to those in the church community.
David was a faithful and loving family man who cherished his family, his church, and, most especially, his grandchildren. He found great joy in spending time with his loved ones and enjoyed playing checkers, cornhole, washers, horseshoes, and card games. David will be remembered for his dedication, his kind and loving spirit, his devotion to God, and the special place he held in the hearts of his family and friends.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Louise; brother, Oscar Owens, Jr.; sister, Carol Phelps; half-sisters, Lozetti Chappel and Narine Magnum and son, Douglas Eugene Owens.
He is survived by his wife, June Owens of Springfield, IL; son, Ken (Roxanne) Owens of Sherman, IL; daughter, Dianna (Patrick) Jones of Springfield, IL; grandchildren, Kaitlynnd (Nathan) Allen of Denham Springs, LA, Gabrielle of Springfield, IL, and Kamerin and Kaylee both of Sherman, IL; great grandchild, Selah; siblings, Benny (Geraldine) Owens of Bloomington, IL, Wendell Owens of Portland, OR, and Jerry (Sandy) Owens of Montgomery, TX; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation & Funeral Services will take place at The Pentecostals of Springfield (located at South Side Christian Church) from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Friday August 28, 2026, at 2600 S. MacArthur Blvd., Springfield, IL 62704, with Rev. Aaron Harrod officiating.
Burial will follow at Roselawn Cemetery in Springfield, IL.
