He was born in Evanston, IL, on October 5, 1940, the son of Orval David and Evelyn Margaret Kjer Tyner.
Mike was a very hard worker and held various occupations with State of Illinois and City of Springfield. He retired from CWLP as the insurance claims manager. After retiring, he owned and operated Snap Your Fingers Courier. He served on the board of directors at Lincoln Memorial Garden, and was involved with activities in the Illinois Native Plant Society for many years. Mike was an avid photographer of nature. Mike was also a two-time male breast cancer survivor. He was an avid Chicago Cubs and Illini fan. Mike was an amazing chili cook and participated in many chili cook-offs across the country and in Canada.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Richard, Everett, and James Tyner.
Mike is survived by his children, Christine Ross of Springfield and Michelle (Don) McQuern of Montgomery; grandchildren, Anthony and Angela Padula, Nicole, Audrey, and Carissa Ross, and Morgen McQuern; siblings, Robert Tyner and Grace Mayes of Kenosha; and eight great-grandchildren.
Cremation was provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center.
Memorial Gathering: Family will receive friends from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 6, 2024, at Boardman-Smith Funeral Home, 800 S. Grand Ave. West, Springfield.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Lincoln Memorial Garden or Illinois Native Plant Society.
