He was born in Springfield on May 27, 1949, the son of William and Matilda (McCauly) Wood.
David graduated from Lanphier High School with the class of 1967. He went on to work with JW Countertops for several years. David also proudly served in the United States Air Force. He loved spending time outdoors, especially fishing and tending to his garden. David was a member of the Lions Club, where he was honored to serve as their president for one year. Faith was also of great importance, as he dedicated his life to God. David was known for his generous heart and social nature.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Jeremy Richardson; and brother, Russell Avery.
David is survived by his partner, Anne Sablotny; sons, David S. Richardson and Jason Wood; and sisters, Susan E. Wood and Carolyn (Larry) Brooks.
Cremation was provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center.
Graveside Ceremony: 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 4, 2025, at Camp Butler National Cemetery, with military honors provided.
