

Dennis R. Kessler, 65, of Springfield, died at 3:36 p.m. on Wednesday, June 24, 2015 at Memorial Medical Center. Dennis was born September 5, 1949 in Springfield, the son of Earl and Mildred. He married Sharon White on June 6, 1970 in Grand Forks, ND. Dennis graduated from Feitshans High School and DeVry Institute in Chicago. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1969-1973. He was employed as a manager in the food service industry and also worked as a tax preparer. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and the VFW Post 755. Dennis was an avid fisherman and St. Louis Cardinals fan. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, playing online video poker, and watching westerns. He was a friend of Bill W. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Richard, Billy, Donald, and Ajax; and sister, Glenda. He is survived by his wife, Sharon Kessler of Springfield; daughters, Desiree (significant other, Kevin Siere) Embree of Riverton and Darcy (husband, Travis) Woodrum of Petersburg; grandchildren, Cheyenne Embree, Brianna Woodrum and Aiden Woodrum; siblings, Pat, Phyllis, Cindy, Harold, Robert, Ronald, Terry, and Dwayne; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. In accordance with Dennis' wishes, his body will be donated for scientific research. Graveside Ceremony: 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 2, 2015 at Camp Butler National Cemetery with Rev. Grant Ray officiating. The Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County will provide military honors. Friends may gather at the cemetery at 1:45 p.m.
