

Dewey was born July 5, 1944, to Amos Otto and Sarah Catherine (McNutt) Houser. He married Alberta F. Evers on October 11, 1965.
Dewey was a resident of Rochester and Springfield for most of his life. He was a member of the Rochester Christian Church. Dewey retired from the State of Illinois having worked for the State Police, Division of Vocational Rehabilitation and Department of Children and Family Services. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Medical Corp and served from 1965 to 1967 with the 249th General Hospital stationed in Japan during the Vietnam War. Dewey loved to travel and enjoyed working in his garden. He was an avid orchid grower. Dewey and Alberta traveled to all 50 states and 35 countries. Close to his heart were the years after retirement, watching his great-niece and great-nephew and attending their school and sports events.
He is survived by his wife, Alberta of Springfield; sister-in-law, Loyce (Dareth) Branham of Springfield; brothers, Roy and Richard; and several nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews, all of whom he loved dearly.
Dewey was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Janie, Ann, and Virginia; brothers, James and Benjamin; sister-in-law, Joyce and brother-in-law, Roddey Edelstein.
Private family ceremonies will be held with burial at Chatham Memorial Cemetery.
