

Donald Joseph Rose, 73, of Riverton, IL, died peacefully at 12:30 am, Saturday, September 29, 2007 at St. John’s Hospice with his family at his side. He was born on March 29, 1934, in Springfield, IL, the son of George and Pauline Weishar Rose, who have preceded him in death. He married Lorine “Lu” Capranica on May 8, 1965 at St. Aloysius Church in Springfield. Don lived a life full of family, friends, love, and laughter. He is most known for the enduring love he shared with his wife, Lorine, his closeness with his family, his sense of humor, his generosity, and his kindness. His children will be eternally grateful for the patience and kindness he was always able to give. Anyone who knew him knows he always loved to talk and frequently said “I never met a stranger”. He enjoyed racing boats when he was younger. He entered the U.S. Army in 1956 served in Germany before returning home to Springfield in 1958. He enjoyed many years of being a private contractor in the Springfield area. Later in life he enjoyed fishing, tending to his vegetable garden, feeding the wild birds and sitting around the table playing cards with family and friends. Surviving are his wife, Lorine “Lu” Capranica- Rose; son, Steven Rose (fiancée, Sharon Okenfuss) of Sherman; daughter, Karen Rose of Springfield,; brother, James Rose (wife, Debra) of Arvada, CO; Aunt Christine McDonald of Omaha, NE; cousins Robert, Patricia, Kathleen and Susan as well as many nieces and nephews. The family welcomes friends to visit from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 2, 2007 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Visitation will begin with a prayer service at 4:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 3, 2007 at St. James Catholic Church, 112 N. 6th St., Riverton, IL with Rev. Joseph Ring and Rev. Robert Franzen concelebrating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery where military honors will be provided by the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1905.
