

Donald M. “Don” Anderson, 77, of Springfield, IL died at 1:40 a.m. on Sunday, September 20, 2009. He was born March 7, 1932 in Centralia, IL, the son of Ervin Benjamin and Golda Hagler Anderson. He married Geneva Eblin on February 11, 1951 at Omega Presbyterian Church, Omega, IL.
Don was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Ervin Lee “Andy” Anderson. Surviving him are his wife; one son, Steve (Jill) Anderson of Loda, IL; two daughters, Donna (Olin) Mefford of Florence, AL and Carol (Gary) Cronister of Springfield; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He served as a Sergeant in the United States Army during the Korean War. He retired from Illinois Bell Telephone Company in 1985 after 34 years of employment. After retirement, he formed Anderson Associates Real Estate Appraisal Company. He was Active in the First United Methodist Church where he was a member of the IBT Sunday School Class.
Services are under the direction of Boardman-Smith Funeral Chapel, 800 S. Grand Ave. West where visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, September 22, 2009. A funeral service will be at First United Methodist Church, 2941 Koke Mill Rd. at 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 23, 2009, with visitation one hour prior (10 a.m.). Dr. Roger Ross will be officiating. Graveside service will be at Oak Ridge Cemetery at 2 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
