Donald Edward Hoelzel

He was born on August 22, 1928 in Springfield, the son of the late Oliver and Hilda (Schmidt) Hoelzel. He married Virginia Bee on Dec. 4, 1948 and she preceded him in death. He later married Patricia Rodier on Jan. 2, 1978 and she also preceded him in death.

Mr. Hoelzel was a sheet metal worker, was a member of the Masons, and was a former member of the Sangamo Surf Club.

He is survived by a son Donald Hoelzel of Springfield; a daughter Lynn Marie (husband Warren) Evans of Sherman, IL; 4 step-children, Cindy (husband Guss) Candioto of Glenarm, IL, Pam (husband Bob) Perrine of Sherman, IL, Lori Huffstedtler of Mt. Vernon, IL, and Gary (wife Debbie) Blanford of Mundelein, IL; 13 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren.

Besides his parents and both of his wives, he was preceded in death by a son Mark A. Hoelzel, 1 grandson Michael Candioto, and 1 great-granddaughter Ella Peters.

Services are under the direction of Bisch Funeral Home West, 2931 S. Koke Mill Rd., Springfield where visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 8, 2014 from 4 to 7 pm. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at 10 am at the funeral home, with Rev. Sam Janssen officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery, Springfield.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or to Memorial Home Hospice.
