

Donald E. Redpath, Sr., 78, of Springfield, passed away at 9:25 p.m. Thursday, January 17, 2002 at St. John’s Hospice. Donald was born September 12, 1923, the son of Louis and Gladys Denning Redpath in Springfield. He married Celeste Dove on January 24, 1943 at Stuart Street Christian Church. Mr. Redpath was employed as a police officer for the Springfield Police Department for 25 years attaining the rank of Assistant Chief of Police before retiring in 1981. He then served as Chief of Police for Springfield Park Police, Springfield Park District retiring in 1987. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran serving during WWII. He was a member of Central Lodge 71 AF&AM, and Scottish Rite, he was a past President for P.B.P.A. Life Member Unit 5, he was the Executive Vice President for the Illinois Police Association, he was a past President of Eagle F.O.E. 437, a member of American Legion Post 32 and a lifetime member of V.F.W. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son: Donald E. Redpath, Jr. April 14, 1998 and one brother: Chuck Redpath. He is survived by his wife: Celeste of Springfield; four sons: Louis (wife, Laura) Redpath III of Springfield; Chuck (wife, Bambi) Redpath of Springfield, Earl “Doc” (wife, Carol) Redpath of Springfield, Michael Redpath of Springfield; five daughters: Karen (husband, Bill) Becker of Springfield, Sharon (husband, Danny) Paoni of Springfield, Catherine (husband Ron) Mumaw of Springfield, Retha (husband, Jim) Riemer of Springfield, Gladys “Sue” (husband, Greg) Renaud of Aurora; one daughter-in-law: Sandra Redpath of Springfield; one brother: Gerald (wife, Betty) Redpath of Springfield; one sister: Retha Edwards of Springfield; eighteen grandchildren; ten great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home from 4-8:00 p.m. Monday, January 21, 2001 with Masonic Services at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 22, 2002 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home with Reverend Robert Becker officiating. Burial will follow in Camp Butler National Cemetery where the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County will perform military honors.
