Donna L. Higgins

Donna L. Higgins, 81, of Springfield, IL, departed this life on Sunday, December 7, 2025, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon, IL, with her loving family by her side. She was born on July 3, 1944, to Leo Raymond and Fern Kinney, who both have preceded her in death, as well as her beloved sister, Deloris “Jeanne” Wollesen.

Donna graduated from Lanphier High School in 1962 and began working for the Illinois Department of Transportation. She then became a stay-at-home mother shortly before her daughter, Cindy, was born, and remained at home well after her son, Jeff, was born. Donna worked for several oil companies before accepting a job with SIU School of Medicine, Plastics Surgery, where she stayed until her retirement on December 31, 2015. Donna grew up in the Springfield area and grew up as a member of the Third Presbyterian Church. She loved being a part of school programs while her children were young and watching her grandchildren play sports and perform in musicals. Donna enjoyed spending time with her family, tending to her yard full of flowers, going out to eat for lunch, playing the slot machines, and enjoying time with her pets. She thoroughly enjoyed planning and attending luncheons with her SIU retired friends and keeping in touch despite everyone’s busy lives. Her children and grandchildren were the things she loved the most in life.

Donna is survived by her daughter, Cindy Mosley (companion, Joseph Bartley) of Riverton, IL and her children, Kirsten Mosley of Riverton, Garrett Mosley (companion, Leslie Chandler) of Clinton, IL, and Schyler Mosley of Williamsville, IL; son, Jeffrey Higgins (fiancé, Theresa Gunnels) of Salem, IL and his daughter, Brianna Higgins of Jacksonville, IL; closest niece, Dena Warren of Springfield, IL; and several nieces and nephews living in the Central IL and MO areas.

Cremation will be provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center.

Private family burial services will be held at Oak Ridge Cemetery.

The family will host a Celebration of Life from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Monday December 22, 2025, at Riverton Village Hall, 1200 Riverton Rd., Riverton. Friends and guests are invited to visit with the family and share stories and memories of Donna’s life.

Memorial donations can be made in Donna’s honor directly to: SIU Simmons Cancer Institute or can be brought to the Celebration of Life.
