Doris Pressman Stern loving wife of Arnold, mother to Gregory and Cheron Stern, Missy and Jerry Entin and Tracey and Terry Harper, adoring and loving grandmother to Rachel Sandler (Dan), Lauren Lummus (Reid), Jennifer and Amanda Entin, Geoffrey Harper (Andrea) and Hana Stern, great grandmother to Harper and Greyson Lummus and Theodore and Sydney Sandler and best friend to her loving canine companion Rosie passed away on May 13 after a brief illness.

Doris was born and raised in Topeka, Kansas and was preceded in death by her sister Marjorie Naidorf. Doris attended the University of Missouri as an undergraduate where she was member of Alph Epilson Phi Sorority, where she met Arnold. After their nupitals in Topeka, Kansas in June 6, 1951, the newlyweds went to the Panama Canal Zone where Arnold was a second lieutenant in the United States Air Force and their son was born. After returning to Springfield, Doris and Arnold resided in the Pasfield Park Apartments before building their home where they resided their entire married life.

Doris was active in raising her family and contributed countless hours to Kings Daughter Home and the Junior League Club of Springfield where she was a puppeteer. Doris’ sense of style was evident to all and she worked for thirty years at the Wardrobe as a buyer and salesperson, where she made many friends, and assisted in clothing many of Springfield’s women and young ladies.

have a memory or condolence to add?

I was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Doris (Mrs. Stern to me and all of the Tophill neighborhood kids who loved her as we were growing up). She and Mr. Stern were the neighbors everyone wished for and cherished. Kind, generous and always there with a kind word or a helping hand. I had the good fortune to see them both in September of 2018 and Doris was her usual friendly, vivacious self. My sincere condolences to the entire Stern family. She will be very greatly missed.
