Doris E. Stokes, 71, of Springfield, died at 4:54 p.m. Tuesday, December 2, 2003 at St. John’s Hospital. Doris was born December 9, 1931 in Schram City, IL the daughter of Emmett and Pearl Brown Godown. She married William D. Stokes, Sr. September 1, 1948 in Hillsboro. Mrs. Stokes was a graduate of Hillsboro High School and a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her parents and daughter, Donna Stokes. She is survived by her husband, William of Springfield; two sons: William D. (wife, Shirley) Stokes, Jr. of Sun City, AZ, Donald Stokes of Springfield; five daughters: Pamela (husband, Paul) Wells of Spaulding, Mary Lou Henry of Mesa, AZ, Cynthia Bonner of Springfield, Kelly (husband, James) McCann of Springfield, Tamera (Husband, Terry) Veith of Petersburg; sixteen grandchildren, seven great grandchildren; one brother: Clinton E. “Bud” Godown of Long Beach, CA; one niece; five nephews and several cousins. Private services are being held. Memorial contributions may be made to the choice of the donor. The family of Doris E. Stokes is being served by Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home and Cremation Tribute Center 900 S. 6th St., Springfield.
