

Dorothy L. Greifzu, 88, of Springfield, formerly of Effingham, passed away on Wednesday June 5, 2013 at Lewis Memorial Christian Village. She was born on June 28, 1924 in Bone Gap, Edwards County, Illinois to Alvah and Nora Mckibben Cortrecht. She married Edward R. Greifzu on February 19, 1955 in Danville, IL., and he survives.
Mrs. Greifzu is also survived by her children: Ruth Anne (Curt) Camden of Decatur, Darrel (Cynthia) Greifzu of West Des Moines, IA., and David (Karen) Greifzu of Auburn, and seven grandchildren: Ashley Camden of Decatur, Samuel, Aaron, and John Greifzu of Auburn, and Shelby, Lindsay, and Michael Greifzu of West Des Moines, IA. She was preceded in death by her brothers Lloyd and Wayne, and her sister Ruby Catherine.
Dorothy worked in a coil factory during World War II and then became a homemaker. She enjoyed fishing alongside her husband Edward at Lake Sara in Effingham and she loved spending time with her family, especially her beloved grandchildren. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church where she was also a member of the Women’s Circle and the IBT Sunday School Class.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday June 11, 2013 at First United Methodist Church, 2941 S. Koke Mill Rd., with Dr. Roger Ross officiating. The family will meet friends from 10-11:00am Tuesday at the church. A graveside service will be held at 1:00pm on Wednesday June 12, 2013 at Bone Gap Cemetery in Bone Gap, IL. Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church.
