

She was born on January 18, 1926 in Auburn, IL, the daughter of the late Paul and Willabee (Vincent) Hicks.
Dorothy moved to Springfield in 1942, and attended Lanphier High School, graduating in 1944. She married John E. Hood on June 1, 1946 at Third Presbyterian Church in Springfield.
She worked for Horace Mann in the Accounting and Actuarial division. She was a member of Third Presbyterian Church, King’s Daughter’s- Nightingale Circle, and served on the executive board for the Carrie Post-King’s Daughter’s Home.
Dorothy was proceeded in death by her husband, John Edward Hood, her nephew John J. Miller, and her great-niece Julie Miller.
Dorothy is survived by 4 children, John P. (Susan) Hood of Montgomery, IL, Cynthia (John) Crego of Lebanon, TN, David (Susan) Hood of Springfield, and Pamela Hood Noyes of Warrenville, IL; 5 grandchildren, Katie (T.J.) McLaughlin, Kristin (Andy) Sanderson, Cody (Morgan Thomas) Noyes, Stephen (Rachel) Selvaggio, and Matthew (Carmela Ribaudo) Selvaggio; 5 great-grandchildren, Jack McLaughlin, Sam Sanderson, Molly Sanderson, Ellen McLaughlin, and Benjamin Selvaggio; 1 nephew Harry (Diane) Miller; 1 niece Betsy Miller; 1 great-nephew Jack (Maddy) Miller; 3 great-nieces, Emily (Matt) Montgomery, Breanna Bauman, and Lindsay (Adam) Daniels; and great-great nieces and nephews, Anna Conner, Abby and Zoey Bauman, Lucy, Jewell, Matthew and Sadie Montgomery, Blake and Beckett Miller.
Services are under the direction of Bisch and Son Funeral Home, Springfield. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 15, 2021 from 10 am until time of the funeral service at 11 am at Third Presbyterian Church, 1030 N. 7th St., Springfield, IL 62702. Rev. John R. Shear will officiate the service. Private Burial service.
Memorials may be made to the Third Presbyterian Church or to the King’s Daughter’s Home.
