Dorothy L. Hubbard

Dorothy L. Hubbard, 68, of Springfield, died at 7:55 p.m. on July 6, 2008 at Memorial Medical Center. Dorothy was born on May 12, 1940 in Roachport, MO the daughter of Birch and Helen Bentley Stemmons. She married Thomas Hubbard on January 6, 1972 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Springfield, IL. Dorothy was employed by the State of Illinois, Department of Human Services. She was a member of the Elks Lodge and a member of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her father; a brother, Birch Udell Stemmons; a sister, Vivian Stemmons; one grandchild; and two great-grandchildren. She is survived by her mother, Helen Stemmons of Columbia, MO; her husband, Thomas; nine children, Donald Carter (wife, Doris) of Frankfurt, Germany, Richard Mohammed (companion, Stephanie) of Springfield, Cynthia Johnson (companion, Alonzo) of Columbia, MO, Kris Johnson of Columbia, MO, Brandon Harvell (wife, Emelea) of Atlanta, GA, and Vivian Johnson (husband, William Weir) of Columbia, MO; Yvonna Harvell (husband, Patrick Lee) of Brooklyn, NY, Scott Johnson (wife, Christina) of Bloomington, IL and Shane Harvell (wife, Shavonne) of Iceland; thirty grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lila Stemmons and Blondell Kelly (husband, James) both of Columbia, MO; several nieces and nephews; one great-niece and three great-nephews, a host of cousins and friends; and her dog, Tyler. Cremation will be accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to ceremonies. Memorial ceremonies will be at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 12, 2008 at Second Timothy Baptist Church, 1122 E. Pine, Springfield with Rev. Richard Maye officiating.
