

Dottie was born March 27, 1942 in Springfield, IL, the daughter of Herschel and Marie Hudgins Aldridge. She married Terry Irvin on July 7, 1962 in Clarence, MO.
Dottie was a registered nurse who received her doctorate in psychiatric nursing from Indiana University Purdue University, Indianapolis. As an associate professor at St. Johns College in Springfield, Dottie served as an educator and mentor to hundreds of students. She retired from teaching in 2009.
Throughout her life, Dottie was most generous with her acts of kindness and giving spirit, helping family and friends, particularly with health challenges. She enjoyed extended vacations to the southwest. Dottie loved the Navajo Indian culture, making frequent stops in Crownpoint, NM to participate in the Navajo Rug Auctions.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her many beloved cats.
She is survived by her husband, Terry; her beloved feline, Rowdy; and hundreds of friends whose lives have been so positively impacted by her.
Cremation was accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to ceremonies.
Memorial Gathering: Family will receive friends from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at Boardman-Smith Funeral Home, 800 South Grand Ave. West, Springfield. The memorial gathering will begin with a prayer service.
