Dodie Coady died February 6, 2018 at age 88. She resided at St. Joseph's Home since her husband Jim died three years ago. She had been president of the St. Joseph's Home Coterie years ago and her return there allowed her to catch up with old friends and make many new ones. The Sisters and staff made a wonderful and loving home for us. Dodie was born January 9, 1930 in Springfield, the daughter of Dennis J. and Helen Rodems Kervin. Dodie was a registered nurse, graduating from St. John's Nursing School in 1950. She was president of her class and as president had to have a date for the prom. She asked our Dad to the dance for their first date and the rest is history! She worked nights until the birth of her fifth child. She is survived by her seven children, Colleen Reisz (George), Jeff Coady (Trish), Caren Zentgraf (Dan), Greg Coady (Helena), Steve Coady (Shelley), Kevin Coady (Lori), and Kelly Kallenberger (Jim); her twenty-one grandchildren that were a big part of her life, Peter and Samuel Reisz, Kyle (Leah), Katelyn and Conner Coady, Derek (Angie), Amy and Dane Zentgraf, Lauren Ashley (Ryan) Murphy, Camille (Sean) Campbell, Jarrod and Nico Coady, Scout, Savannah and Satchel Coady, Ally, James and Caroline Coady, Paige, Ethan and Jack Kallenberger; and seven great-grandchildren. Mom and Dad were active parishioners at Blessed Sacrament Church. They counted their Renew 2000 prayer group as one of the most meaningful experiences of their later years. They were avid bridge players and enjoyed traveling. Like all mothers of large families, she had eyes in the back of her head. Her unfailing message to us was to put the marriage first. The strong bond between our parents has and will continue to guide us. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 10:30 to 11:15 am. on Friday, February 16, 2018 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 1725 S. Walnut Street, Springfield. Funeral Ceremony: 11:30 a.m. on Friday, February 16, 2018 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with Rev. Jeff Grant celebrant. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Josephs Home, 3306 S. 6th St., Springfield, IL 62703-4709 or Blessed Sacrament School Teacher Support Fund, 748 W. Laurel, Springfield, IL 62704.
