

Dorothy “Dot” Kwedar, 69, died Tuesday, July 6, 2004 at her home of breast cancer. She was born April 5, 1935 in Evanston, the daughter of Harry and Sadie Fox Lashmet. She married Dr. Edward Kwedar in 1957 in Evanston. An 8 year old son, Tommy Kwedar, preceded her in death in 1966. She was a graduate of the St. Francis School of Nursing in Evanston in 1956. Mrs. Kwedar has been a resident of Springfield since 1964. She was very active in Girl Scouts, PTA and the Care Center of Springfield in her earlier years. She was president of the Sangamon County Medical Auxiliary in 1981. She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Saint John’s Hospital Samaritans, Questers, a King’s Daughters Circle, and the Island Bay Yacht Club. Survivors: husband, Dr. Edward Kwedar; 3 daughters, Betsy (husband Edwin) Roland of Chatham, NJ, Susie (husband, Scott) Homa of Morton, IL, Dr. Kathy (husband Dr. Mason)Copeland of New Albany, IN; son, Dr. John (wife Sharon) Kwedar of Springfield; 8 granddaughters and 8 grandsons; sister, Maryann (husband Dr. Leo) Cummins of Laguna Beach, CA. The family of Dorothy Kwedar is being served by the Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St. Springfield. The family will receive friends from 4 pm to 8 pm Friday, July 9, 2004 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St. Springfield. The visitation will begin with a prayer service at 4:00 p.m. Funeral Mass: 11:00 a.m. Saturday, Blessed Sacrament Church, Rev. Msgr. Kevin Vann, celebrant. Burial: Calvary Cemetery.
