

Dorothy (Dode) A. Langer, 85, a lifelong resident of Springfield, passed away on Friday, August 9, 2013 at Concordia Village. Dorothy was born on October 11, 1927, the daughter of Harry and Ruby Alice (Walker) Habel. Dorothy married Morton Langer on October 7, 1960 in Springfield, he preceded her in death on April 19, 1996.
Dorothy worked as an artist in the preparations department of the Illinois State Museum for 45 years until she retired in 1995. She was very passionate about the work she did and was involved and responsible for many parts of the exhibits at the museum. She had a skill and knack for fixing antique glass and would help anyone that had something to fix. She enjoyed playing golf, spending time with her grand kids, traveling with and to see family, and watching the St. Louis Cardinals and Fighting Illini. She also enjoyed spending time and playing with her grand dogs Ginger, Shasta and Zac.
Surviving Dorothy are her sons: Rich (Colleen) Langer of Springfield, Steve (Amy) Langer of Gurnee, 4 grandchildren Joshua and Lindsay of Springfield, Drew and Ally of Gurnee, and many nieces and nephews.
Also preceding her in death are her parents, her sisters: Virginia Humphrey, Helen Lloyd, and Bertha Habel, and a grandson Will Langer.
Honoring Dorothy's wishes, a private family service will be held, Tuesday.
Memorials in Dorothy's name may be made to Concordia Village or to the Illinois State Museum.
