Dorothy Lee Stone

Dorothy was born on August 13, 1921 in Vermilion Grove, IL, the daughter of Edgar T. and Blanche Pugh Mills. She married Richard Paul Stone in 1942 in Ridge Farm, IL.

Dorothy graduated from Ridge Farm (IL) High School and Paris (IL) Hospital School of Nursing. She worked as a registered nurse at Memorial Medical Center, retiring in 1977 after 25 years of service.

She was an active member of Douglas Avenue United Methodist Church, Kum Double Sunday School Class, United Methodist Women, Miriam Circle, and served on numerous commissions and committees. She was a fifty-year member of Gertrude McKelvey Circle of Kings Daughters, D.C. Chapter of P.E.O., and Pasfield Women’s Golf League.

Dorothy was preceded in death by parents, Edgar T. and Blanche Pugh Mills; husband, Richard Paul Stone; and sister, Jean Marie Shank.

She is survived by three daughters, Carol (Richard) Lindstrom of Galesburg, IL, the Rev. Marian Stone of Galesburg, IL, and Susan (Patrick) Cox of Rantoul, IL; seven grandchildren, Julie Lindstrom of Cleveland, OH, Jennifer Lindstrom of Boston, MA, Rich (Eva) Lindstrom of Satellite Beach, FL, Nathan (Allison) Cox of Arcola, IL, Aaron (Kati) Cox of Shorewood, IL, Wesley (Andrea) Cox of Gifford, IL, and Rachel (David) Roberts of Mahomet, IL; eleven great- grandchildren; and brother, Walter Mills of Chandler, AZ.

Cremation will be accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to ceremonies.

Memorial Gathering and Memorial Ceremony: Family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the Memorial Ceremony at 11:00 a.m. on August 15, 2015 at Douglas Avenue United Methodist Church, 501 South Douglas Ave., Springfield, IL 62704 with the Rev. Julia Melgreen officiating.

Burial at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Springfield, IL.
