

Dorothy Nelson Weber 96, passed away October 31, 2011, three days before her 97th birthday at the Cottages of Bradenton, her home for the last four years. She was born November 3, 1914 in Winchester, IL, the daughter of Earl and Elna (Gibson) Nelson. She married Rex A. Weber June 10, 1938 and he preceded her in death June 21, 1985.
Springfield had been Dorothy’s home for 60 years. In 2002, she moved to Galesburg, IL to be near her daughter. In 2007, she moved to Florida to spend time with her son.
Dorothy Nelson graduated from Illinois College, Jacksonville, in 1935, with a major in English and teaching. She taught in Alsey and Winchester during WW II.
After moving to Springfield her interests outside the home actively involved Woman’s Service Council at Central Baptist Church, including individual circle leadership. She was also active in Church Women United and Kings Daughters.
She and her husband Rex attended concerts at the Orpheum through the Amateur Musical Club and Springfield Symphony. They went to many conventions with the Savings and Loan League and Rotary International.
Surviving are her son; Ronald Gary (wife Virginia) of Bradenton, Florida and her daughter; Janet Farmer (husband Stan) of Galesburg, her three grandsons, David Farmer (wife Angela) of Davenport, Iowa, Andrew Weber (wife Jessica) of Shoreline, WA, and Scott Farmer (wife Stacy) of Parker, Co. Also surviving are three great-grandchildren; Michael Farmer and Katelyn Farmer of Davenport, IA and Aloe Weber of Shoreline, WA.
Arrangements are under the direction of Boardman Smith Funeral home. Interment will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday Nov. 10, 2011in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Springfield, IL. Services will be at Central Baptist Church, Fourth and Jackson at 1:00 pm. Thursday November 10, 2011. Visitation will be at the church one hour preceding the church service.
Officiating will be Dr. Reg Mills of Central Baptist and Rev. Dan Siems of First Baptist, Galesburg.
Memorials in lieu of flowers may be made to First Baptist Church, Galesburg or to Central Baptist Church, Springfield.
