

Douglas E. Hurley, 62, of Springfield, passed away on Saturday, April 12, 2014, at St. John's Hospital. Doug was born on July 25, 1951, in Springfield, the son of the late James Hurley and Thelma (Carter) Hendricker. Doug was a graduate of Southeast High School in Springfield. He married Carol Sunley in Springfield on May 26, 1995. Over the years Doug worked for different places throughout Springfield: as a butcher for Gundy, at Fiat-Allis, at St. John's Hospital, and then after 19 years at Bunn-O-Matic he retired. Outside of work Doug loved to spend time with his family and friends, watching his beloved Cubs in his garage, fishing, gardening, and playing pool, he even played a match in a Las Vegas tournament against Minnesota Fats.
Doug is survived by his loving wife Carol, his children: Krista (Jeff) Clark of Buffalo, Darren (Debi) Burns of Springfield, Lori (Eric) Stephens of Ashland, Tara (Mike) Flanigan of Springfield, and Jami (David) Dollens of Texas, several grandchildren, siblings: Jim Hurley, Mary Pershing, Nancy Barron, Kathy Hendricker, Kevin Hendricker, Karla Lucas, Mike Hurley, and Mark Hurley, as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Preceding Doug in death are his parents and a daughter Amanda Elmore.
Arrangements are under the direction of Bisch & Son Funeral Home 505 E. Allen St. Springfield, IL, 62703, where a visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 16, 2014 from 4-7 pm. A funeral service officiated by Rev. Vaughn Beeman will be on Thursday, April 17, 2014 at 11 am at the funeral home. A burial will follow at Old Salem Cemetery.
Those who wish to may leave a memorial in Doug's name to the American Lung Association.
