

Jack was born on May 19, 1929, in Springfield, the son of Michael and Ruth (Shoup) Gillen. He married Mildred L. Adams on January 29, 1955, in Springfield.
Jack attended Bradley University in Peoria and the National College of Chiropractic in Lombard. He was a Doctor of Chiropractic for 40 years in Taylorville, Moweaqua, Virden, and Springfield areas. Jack proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy and was a World War II veteran. He enjoyed fishing and building as he was a master carpenter. Jack was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Spending time with his family was his number one favorite thing in life.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Millie Gillen; children, Michelle L. Gillen, Kathleen (Jim) Hillestad, Stacy (Scott) Mundstock, and John Gillen; and grandchildren, Sam Perks, Ryan Hillestad, John Perks, Aleia Gillen, and Cole Hillestad.
Funeral Mass: 11:30 a.m. on Monday, December 21, 2020, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 1725 S. Walnut St., Springfield, IL 62704, with Rev. Jeff Grant, celebrant. Due to COVID restrictions there will be limited capacity.
A private burial will take place at Camp Butler National Cemetery with military honors.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 3816 Paysphere Circle, Chicago, IL 60674.
The family is being served by Butler Funeral Home – Springfield, 900 S. Sixth St., Springfield.
