He was born on June 19, 1957, at St. Francis Hospital in Beech Grove, IN, to John and Mary Etta (Maynard) Moore. He attended Arlington Woods School #99, home of the Wildcats, and Arsenal Tech High School.
Duane proudly served in the U.S. Army at Fort Hood, Texas, with Delta Troop Squadron, 1st Cavalry, the "Sugar Bears", reaching the rank of E-4, and serving as acting sergeant. Afterward he studied at Fairbanks Community College in Fairbanks, Alaska, and earned his federal Airframe and Powerplant license.
That license became his trade for life. He spent his career as an aviation technician at Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport, in Springfield, working for the company through its years as Garret Aviation, Landmark Aviation, and StandardAero. He was happiest with a problem in front of him and a tool in his hand. If something was broken, Duane could fix it and usually had it apart before anyone asked.
On March 31, 2005, Duane married Melissa Winstead and they began their life
together.
Duane found genuine enjoyment in classic cars, with a special love for a 1950 Plymouth, 1946 Chrysler, 1976 Corvette, and 1964 Chevy Nova. That interest also connected him to others in the community, as he was a member of the local classic car clubs (Route 66 Cruisers and Cool Cruisers) in Springfield—sharing his appreciation with fellow enthusiasts and contributing to the spirit of fellowship those clubs represent.
Duane will be remembered with respect and gratitude—for a life shaped by hard work, guided by honesty, and warmed by a kind heart and selfless nature.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John E. Jr. and Mary Moore; brother, Terry Moore; and sister, Michelle Moore.
Duane is survived by his wife Melissa; his daughters, Carissa Moore (Rick), Sarina (Jason) Horn, and Amber (Abdiel) Martinez Llanes who “he called his monkeys, and he was theirs"; stepchildren, Colin Paoni and Sarah (Darrell) Basham; his grandchildren, Kaelea Doggett, Dakota Doggett, Jaxson Taylor, Abigail Hands, Logan Hands, Adara Martinez Llanes, and Azalyn Martinez Llanes; brothers Brent Moore, John Moore, and Jason Moore; and sister-in-law, Teri Moore.
