Dwayne D. Hallman, 54, of Springfield, Illinois passed awayFebruary 3, 2017, surrounded by his loving wife, daughter, family and friends. Dwayne was born in Dallas, Texas on May 17, 1962, the son of Leon and Margaret A. Smith Hallman. He married Liliana “Lee” Pujals in Coral Gables, FL, on July 1, 1994. Five years later his “little one” Ali was born. He was a loving and devoted father and husband, and a kind and gentle man. He made many friends who admired his unpretentious demeanor, work ethic, patience and kindness.
Dwayne is survived by the love of his life, Lee; his daughter, the light of his life Ali; his beloved father, Dr. Leon (wife Patsy) Hallman of Nacogdoches, TX; his mother, Andrea Hitt of Gulf Breeze, FL; his cherished sisters, Karen (husband Paul) Gilbreath of Gulf Breeze, FL and Adaire (husband Todd) Springs of Bethlehem, GA; his dear father-in-law Dr. Enrique “Papito” Pujals of Glassboro, NJ; his sister-in-law Patricia (husband Edward) Ritter of Pitman, NJ; his nephews Teddy, Michael and Scott and his niece, Maggie; his step-brother Dave Spurrier and step-sister Bethany Spurrier. He was preceded in death by his grandparents and his mother-in-law Dr. Josefina Pujals.
Dwayne had a remarkable knowledge of finance. He loved working at Horace Mann, where he served as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer and was a member of the Executive Leadership Team. He was a member and past board member of Illini Country Club, a member of Sangamo Club, and served on the Imagine Tomorrow NICU Committee at HSHS St. John’s Hospital.
A prayer service will begin at 4:00 PM Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 1725 S. Walnut St., Springfield, IL with Fr. Scott Thelander S.J.C. officiating. Visitation will follow at the church until 7:30 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, February 9, 2017 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Cremation Rites will be accorded by the Bisch Crematory.
