

Earl M. Hill, 88, of Springfield, died at 5:30 p.m. on September 11, 2010. Earl was born November 24, 1921 in Athens, the son of Myrell and Elzora MacDougal Borough. Earl married Eloise Ray Hill in 1946 and she preceded him in death in 1999. He then married Lois Kerr in 2000 and she preceded him in death in 2008. He was also preceded in death by his parents; great-grandson, Brian, Jr. and his sisters, Nancy, Jeanne, and Vivian. Earl attended Feitshans High School and went into the Army/Air Force to serve his country during WWII. He served as a crew chief in the European Theatre and achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant. Earl returned to Springfield and continued working at Fiat-Allis where he retired after forty-two years of devoted service. Earl was a charter member of the Springfield Ski and Boat Club, even helping in its construction. He enjoyed boating, camping, fishing, dancing, skiing in ski shows, and in later years making cards for his family and playing free cell on his computer. He is survived by his three children, Dee Harmony, Judy Crespi (Wayne Glass), and Dana (Paige) Hill, all of Springfield; eight grandchildren, Brian (Tammy), Mike (Tina), Lisa (David), Susie, Michael, Sarah, Emma, and Ryan; fourteen great-grandchildren, Dan and Rachael; Justin (Laikyn) and Travis; Lindsey, Katie (Matt), Weston, Matthew, Andrew (Ashley), and Evan; Lauren, Elliott, and Alex; one great-great grandson, Braydon; and many nieces and nephews. Cremation will be accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to ceremonies. The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, September 16, 2010 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Funeral ceremony will be at 10 a.m. on Friday, September 17, 2010 at the funeral home with Rev. Paul Olson officiating. Burial will follow in Camp Butler National Cemetery where military honors will be provided.
