

Edmund Joseph Langen, 84, of Springfield, died on Friday, May 30, 2014. Edmund was born September 13, 1929 in Morrisonville, the son of John T. and Kathryn Lyons Langen. He married Lucille Curvey on April 27, 1957 at St. Maurice Catholic Church. Edmund was a graduate of Morrisonville High School, and earned his bachelor's degree from Southern Illinois University. He proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1951-1952 in the Korean War and was a Purple Heart recipient. Edmund retired in 1992 from Liberty Mutual and was a member of the Elks Lodge #158, the 180th Infantry Association, K of C #364, Springfield Motorboat Club, VFW #4495, American Legion Post #1619 and he served on the Morrisonville School Board, the Taylorville Savings and Loan board, and coached Little League. Edmund loved spending time with his family, golfing, and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Howard, Melvin and John Langen. He is survived by his wife, Lucille; one daughter, Beth; four sons: Ray, Steve, Ed and Phil; five grandchildren: Natasha, Zach, Savannah, Jack, and Madison; one great-grandchild, Benjamin; one brother, Gerald; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Visitation: The family will receive friends from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Monday, June 2, 2014 at Christ the King Catholic Church, 1930 Barberry Dr., Springfield. Visitation will begin with a prayer service at 4:00 p.m. Funeral Mass: 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at Christ the King Catholic Church, with Rev. Jeff Grant, celebrant and Deacon Al Laabs, concelebrant. Private family burial will be held on Wednesday.
