

Edmund F. Skube, 102, of Springfield, passed away at 10:25 a.m. Tuesday, February 5, 2002 at St. John’s Hospice. Edmund was born in Springfield on December 21, 1899 the son of Joseph and Katie Esser Skube. He married Marie McKinnon in September 1930 in Springfield and she preceded him in death on February 8, 1970. Edmund attended Ss. Peter and Paul Grade School. He began bartending at Hogan Brothers Tavern where he assumed ownership in 1952 renaming it Eddie Skube Tavern and operating it until his retirement in 1985. As a hobby he enjoyed working in the yard, raising his vegetable garden and hunting. He was a member of Eagles Aerie 437 and a Charter member of Bartenders Union, which became Hotel & Restaurants Employees Union Local 16 of which he was a member for over 50 years. He was also a member of Blessed Sacrament Church and Holy Name Society. He was also preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister. He is survived by one son: Edmund J. (wife, Diana) Skube Sr., of Springfield; one daughter: Marilyn Skube of Springfield; four grandchildren: Edmund J. Skube, Jr. of Riverton, Mark A. (wife; Jean) Skube of Springfield, Susan R. (husband, Steve) Ellis of Johnson, KS and Kevin C. Skube of Elgin; seven great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Friends may call at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home from 4-7:00 p.m. Friday, February 8,2002. The visitation will begin with a a prayer service at 4:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 9, 2002 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with Reverend William Kessler as celebrant.
