Edward "Ed" Cartwright

Edward "Ed" Cartwright, 78, of Springfield, died at 2:05 a.m. on Wednesday, February 24, 2016 at St. John's Hospital. Ed was born May 30, 1937 in Springfield, the son of Edward I. and Anna Juris Cartwright. He married Diane Kaufman in 1958 in Monrovia, CA. Ed retired as a captain from the Springfield Fire Department after 22 years, and was later employed at the local library for 6 years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #4175 and retired from Firemen Local #37. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Elmer Cartwright; one sister, Ferne Eileen McNear; and one Aunt Mary O. Johnson. He is survived by his wife, Diane Cartwright of Springfield; one son, Kevin Cartwright of Springfield; one daughter, Kimberly M. Krebs of Springfield; one granddaughter, Courtney Krebs of Springfield; two sisters, Lela Green of Springfield and Nancy (husband, Wayne) Jahn of Garden Prairie; one sister-in-law, Fritzi Cartwright; his beloved puppy, Ruffles; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Cremation will be accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to ceremonies. Memorial Ceremony: 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 28, 2016 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 675 E.
