

Eleanor M. Cowan, 85, of Springfield, passed away at 11:20 p.m. on Tuesday, November 6, 2012 at Regency Nursing Home. Eleanor was born March 26, 1927 in Providence, KY, the daughter of Aubrey and Hallie Mae Blaine Moore. She married Coley Cowan on August 12, 1951 in Kentucky; he preceded her in death in 2011. Eleanor earned her bachelor's degree from Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, KY. She taught Language Arts & Social Studies for District #186 from 1966-1986. Eleanor was a member of Douglas Avenue Methodist Church. She enjoyed reading murder mysteries, working jigsaw puzzles, doing needlework, and baking. She also loved animals and was an avid Chicago Bulls fan. She was known for being caring, loving, and family oriented. She was also preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her son, Coley E. (wife, Becky) Cowan of Springfield; daughters, Karen (husband, Tim) Gunn of Columbia, MD and Dana (husband, Tony) Cowan-Moyer of Springfield; one grandson, Andrew (wife, Becky) Cowan of Springfield; and one brother, Aubrey Moore, Jr. of Murray, KY. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Monday, November 12, 2012 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Funeral Ceremony: 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home with Rev. Julia Melgreen officiating. Burial to follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
