She was born April 5, 1921 in Peoria, the youngest of seven children to Roy R. and Anna McDonough Mathis. She attended Peoria High School and Bradley University. She taught cosmetology at Peoria High School and Southern Illinois University.
In 1960, she moved to Springfield. Ms. Deffenbaugh was an active member of the Springfield Civic Garden Club, Springfield Ceramics & Crafts Club, a former member of Illini Country Club and member of Nightingale Circle of Kings Daughters Home.
Ms. Deffenbaugh is survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Cremation rights have been accorded. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Illinois Humane, PO Box 512
