

She is survived by her two daughters: Nancy L. “Kit” Funderburk of Fairport, New York and Candice A. Brotherson of Morton, Illinois four grandsons: Dr. Matthew E. (Jennifer) Funderburk of Pittsford, New York, Adam C. (Anne) Funderburk of Charleston, South Carolina, Brett A. (Erin) Brotherson of Neenah, Wisconsin and Stephen R. (Dr. Remy Wong) Brotherson of Montreal, Quebec, seven great grandchildren: Mia E. Funderburk of Pittsford, New York, Bryn E. Funderburk of Pittsford, New York, Brianna L. Brotherson of Neenah, Wisconsin, Brennan F. Brotherson of Neenah, Wisconsin, Max C. Funderburk of Charleston, South Carolina, Ashlyn R. Funderburk of Charleston, South Carolina, and Eli M. Brotherson of Montreal, Quebec, seven nieces and one nephew. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years Merle E. Tomlin, her parents James E. and Minnie J. Schroeder Christy of Mason City, Illinois two sisters: Helen Fleener and Margaret Campbell , two brothers: James E. Christy, Jr. and Thomas M. Christy all from Mason City, and one son-in-law Fred Brotherson.
Eleanor lived a long and productive life. She was a cosmetologist for 53 years, a U.S. Navy wife for 24 years, and was a member of The Order of Eastern Star (OES) for over 74 years (1942-2016). She was a Past Matron of Flower City Chapter OES, a Grand Representative of Kentucky, a Past Grand Matron of Illinois OES, served 3 years as Chairman of the General Grand Chapter Committee for the Shriner’s Hospital for Children, served 3 years as Deputy for the Most Worthy Grand Matron in Panama and served 3 years as Most Worthy Grand Electa. She was a member of Douglas Avenue United Methodist Church.
Eleanor’s funeral will be held on Monday, December 19, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at Douglas Avenue United Methodist Church, 501 South Douglas Avenue, Springfield, Illinois with visitation taking place at 9:30 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will be a Camp Butler National Cemetery with a brief graveside service following the funeral.
