Elizabeth Posegate Gorman

Elizabeth Posegate Gorman, 102, died on September 26, 2012 in Conway, AR, where she had lived since 1981. Previously she had lived her entire life in Springfield, IL. Born December 27, 1909, in Chicago, she was the only daughter of the late Carey Newton Posegate and Mary Elizabeth Didcoct Posegate.

She attended Dennison University, Granville, Ohio, where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority. She received a bachelor’s degree from Illinois State University in Normal and a Master’s degree from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. For many years she was a kindergarten teacher in Springfield Public Schools. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma honor society and the eldest living member of Central Baptist Church, Springfield.

She was predeceased by both husbands, Dwight L. Oliver and Paul G. Gorman, three brothers, Charles E. Posegate, John M. Posegate and William D. Posegate, a step daughter, Patricia M. Gorman, and a daughter-in-law Mary Virginia Oliver.

Survivors include her sons, Warren Emerson Oliver, Conway,AR and John William Posegate Oliver (Cristina), Charlotte, NC; three grandchildren, Susan O. Queen, Conway,AR., John W.P. Oliver, Jr. (Marsha) Savannah, GA.,and Sloan C. S.Oliver (Heather) Atlanta,Ga.; nine great grandchildren, Savannah and Alex Queen, Conway, AR, Elizabeth, William, Mary Kendrick and Elliott Oliver, Savannah,GA, Caroline Christian and Jane Elizabeth Oliver, Atlanta, GA; a cousin, Betty Didcoct Burrill, Bethesda,MD and in Springfield, a niece and nephew, Mary Alice Posegate Davis and Dr. Robert W. Posegate.

Friends may call at the Boardman-Smith Funeral Chapel on Monday October 1, 2012 from 11:00 AM until the time of funeral service there at Noon. Rev. Dr. John W.P. Oliver will officiate. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
