Betty was such a happy, positive person. Always enjoyed chatting with her.  Wish I had her energy and smile.

It was sad to hear of Betty's passing. She was a dear friend of my mothers. I have been using all her cookie Recipes and peanut brittle recipe every year for Christmas in my adult life. Dear Merle and Chuck, I am so sorry for your loss. “Aunt” Betty was always another grandmother to my children. She loved having them for breakfast once a week and took great care to make sure that they each had just what they wanted. We have fond memories of Christmas events with you all. I will miss seeing her after Mass and am so grateful for her goodness and care for my family all these years. You are in my prayers.

Let me tell you a story.  Betty was the first woman that I asked to marry me. She was my 30 year old Godmother and I was only 5 years old. She loved children and she was so kind to me that I asked her to wait until I grew up and that then I would marry her. I remember to this day she burst out laughing.  Betty was a virtuous woman. She tried to be a daily communicant, and prayed the rosary every evening. But more than those simple religious practices, she practiced her virtue.   One day when I was a boy at her house and playing with her children Chuck and Maria, a small child came to the front door selling something for his school. It was a particularly cold day and Betty, noticing his bright red hands, asked if he did not have gloves? He said he did not. She immediately went to the closet and pulled out a brand new pair of children’s gloves that she had purchased before, just for such a needy person that might come across her path.  Another time she and Merle had me over to their home a few days before Christmas. They brought me with them, as a family, to bring a full dinner to a poor family in the John Hayes homes area of Springfield. She and her family were always concerned for the poor and were generous in sharing what they had with them.  When I had my own children she doted on them, treating them as if she were their grandmother with lots of love and attention. Each of my children has a special place in their heart for Betty King.  But she was also a high energy person. In fact, she ran 5 miles on her 50th birthday.  The last few years Betty has moved much slower, but she’s always had her joy, her infectious smile and her loving heart. We will miss you Betty! Love, Daniel Heffernan

I have such fond memories. Betty was such a lovely lady.  She handled every moment regardless of how painful with grace.  She spent her life close to the Lord and caring for her family.  She will be missed.

To the King and Martin Family, Remembering you and Aunt Betty in our minds and in our hearts.

My thoughts and prayers 🙏 are with Betty's family.  Rest In peace, Betty,  in eternal life in heaven for a life well lived.
