

Elizabeth "Betty" Werner, 89, of Springfield, died at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 31, 2015, surrounded by her loving family. Betty was born June 22, 1926 in Springfield, the daughter of John F. and Anna Nollen Blair. She married William E. "Bill" Werner on October 6, 1951 in Illiopolis; he preceded her in death on October 29, 2008. Betty enjoyed traveling and was an avid gardener. An accomplished artist, she enjoyed drawing and oil painting. She adored her grandsons and had a special love for her dogs. She was a member of St. Cabrini Catholic Church. She was also preceded in death by her parents; one brother, John J. Blair; one sister-in-law, Betty Werner; and one brother-in-law, Charles Werner. She is survived by four children, William "Bill" Werner of Springfield, Mary Elizabeth (husband, Barry) Carter of Riverton, Kathleen "Kathy" (husband, Garrett) Deakin, and Carol Werner, both of Springfield; two grandchildren, Benn (wife, Jen) Carter and Clint Carter, both of Springfield; two step-granddaughters, Amy Deakin of Canton and Emily (husband, Faron) Harmony of Springfield; three step-great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Catherine Werner of Springfield and Sharon Werner of Chatham; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and best friend and near sister, Charlene Leonard of Decatur. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 3, 2015 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Visitation will begin with a prayer service at 4:00 p.m. Funeral Mass: 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 4, 2015 at St. Cabrini Catholic Church, 1020 N. Milton Ave., Springfield, with Rev. Msgr.
