Elizabeth June Wingo, 80, of Springfield, passed on to be with the Lord at 4:25 p.m. on Friday, January 27, 2017 at Memorial Medical Center. Elizabeth was born June 4, 1936 in Herrin, the daughter of Ray and Junia Lauder Bailey. Elizabeth graduated from Carterville High School and earned her bachelor's degree in Education at SIU-Carbondale. She was employed as a school teacher and taught at Blackhawk, Matheny, and Wilcox Elementary Schools for over 36 years. She attended Southside Christian Church and was a member of the Springfield Education Association. Elizabeth was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan, loved Christmas, decorating for the holidays, watching movies, flowers, gardening, reading, and spending time with and playing cards with her family. She was also proud to be a Republican and watched Fox News every day. She was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her children, Scott Wingo of Springfield and Staci (husband, Stan) Martin of Chatham; sister, Carolyn (husband, Ed) Loughmiller of Casa Grande, AZ; niece, Michelle (husband, Alan) Baker of Auburn; nephew, Garrett Groves of Wood River, IL; three great-nephews; one great-niece; several cousins; six step-grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. Cremation was accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to ceremonies. Memorial Gathering: Family will receive friends from 1:00 2:45 p.m. on Saturday, February 11, 2017 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield.
