

Ella Mae Johnson, 91, of Springfield, died at 8:15 p.m. on Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at St. John's Hospital. "Mae" was born May 14, 1924 in Alden, KS, the daughter of Nevin and Dena Monson Myers. As a young woman, she moved to Chicago, IL to work for the VA. She met and later married George G. Johnson on September 12, 1948; he preceded her in death on August 4, 2013. Mae worked at Serv-u Trucking Company in Chicago Heights, IL for twenty years. She and George were members of Bethel Evangelical Covenant Church in Flossmoor, IL, where Mae sang in the choir. After living in the Chicagoland area for many years, she and George moved to Bella Vista, AR and enjoyed a long and healthy retirement. Mae was active in the Pioneer Club and was an officer in her local AARP organization. She enjoyed singing in the choir at Bella Vista Community Church and was also involved in Stephen Ministries. In 2009, she and George moved to Springfield, IL. They were members of Parkway Christian Church. She is also preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Gerald, Kenneth and Emeron Myers; and sister, Lillian Boy. She is survived by her daughter, Cynthia (husband, Chas Blythe) Johnson of Springfield; son, Craig (wife, Cynthia) of Vancouver, WA; one sister, Faye Smith of Hutchinson, KS; and many nieces and nephews. Memorial Gathering and Ceremony: Family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the ceremony at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 28, 2016 at Parkway Christian Church, 2700 Lindbergh Blvd., Springfield with Rev. Mark Gifford officiating. Burial will be held at a later date at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
