Ellen Reed Bruce

Ellen Reed Bruce, 54, of Springfield, died at 1:26 p.m. on Tuesday, February 10, 2009 at her residence. Ellen was born April 16, 1954 in Kewanee, IL, the daughter of Frank and Bette Baker Reed. She married David Bruce on July 6, 1974 in Illiopolis. Ellen attended Illinois State University. She was employed at Kepner and Reiser Law Firm as a legal secretary and was a member of First United Methodist Church. Ellen was especially caring, always putting others before herself. She enjoyed knitting, reading, theater, music, working in the yard, and being the best grandma possible to her grandkids. She was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband of 34 years, David Bruce of Springfield; a son, Mike (wife, Caylee) Bruce of Orland Park, IL; a daughter, Karen Bruce of Chicago; and two grandchildren, Carson and Tyson Bruce. Cremation was accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center. A service celebrating Ellen's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 21, 2009 at First United Methodist Church, 2941 S. Koke Mill Rd., Springfield with Rev. Bob Swickard officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church, Music Department, 2941 S. Koke Mill Rd., Springfield, IL 62711.
