

Ellen Virginia Curtis, 83, of Springfield, died at 5:15 a.m. on Sunday, February 7, 2010 at St. John's Hospital. Ellen was born August 22, 1926 in Tallula, the daughter of William Herbert Dewey and Anna Pearl Stott Woodrum. She married Louis Daniel Curtis, Sr. on December 28, 1946 in Springfield. He preceded her in death in 1979. Ellen went to work at a cookie factory in Chicago after the 10th grade and also worked a caregiver, housekeeper and homemaker. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, cooking and reading. She was also preceded in death by her parents and two sons, John and Gary Curtis. She is survived by her sons, Louis (wife, Deanna) Curtis, Jr. of New Berlin and James R. (wife, Michelle) Curtis of Blue Mound; two daughters, Donna R. Day of FL and Sharon M. Feagans of Springfield; 14 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; two siblings, Katherine Lorenz of Bunker Hill and Jullian Woodrum of Springfield; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Family will receive friends from 4:00 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 11, 2010 at McCullough Delaney and Butler Funeral Home, 714 E. Gibson, New Berlin. A funeral ceremony will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, February 12, 2010 at McCullough Delaney and Butler with Rev. Warren Brosi officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Plains Cemetery.
