He was born in Lebanon. Emile was lovingly married to his wife, Elham, for 36 years.
He is survived by: Elham; three daughters, Zeina (husband Philip Bertulfo) Samara, Sally (husband Brian Hauk) Samara and Kelly Samara, of Chicago, IL; two grandchildren, Nathaniel and Apollo Bertulfo; his sister, Leila Samara; his nephew, Michael Samara and niece, Victoria Samara. His parents and his beloved brother George Samara preceded him in death.
Emile was a graduate of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The majority of his career was spent at the State of Illinois Department of Transportation, where he proudly served for 35 years as a highly accomplished civil engineer and the Foundations and Soils Unit Chief. He spent the last few years of his career at Patrick Engineering, Inc. He will be remembered as an admired leader, mentor, and innovator, and for his contributions to the community as a dedicated citizen.
Emile was an avid gardener with a great appreciation for nature. In his younger days, he enjoyed staying active, particularly in tennis and soccer. He was an early member of St. Anthony’s Greek Orthodox Church. He was known for his hospitality, love of good music, and his sharp sense of style. He was kind and generous, and a genuine friend to many.
Emile will be remembered for his quiet strength and selfless nature. He was a devoted husband and a beloved father, and for this, he will be missed the most.
The Samara family will greet friends and family at a memorial gathering from 9:30 am til 11:15 am on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at Bisch and Son Funeral Home 505 E. Allen St. Springfield, IL. A private family service will be held.
