

Ets Galassi, 85, of Springfield, passed away at 3:10 a.m., Sunday, April 15, 2001. Ets was born September 25, 1915 the son of Noe and Margaret Gindro Galassi in Greenwood, Arkansas. He married Carrie M. Rebecca November 30, 1946. She preceded him in death on September 16, 2000. Mr. Galassi lived in Springfield most of his life; he retired from the IL Department of Administrative Services in 1979 after 10 years of service. He was a U.S. Army Sergeant/Paratrooper in WWII attached to the Office of Strategic Services (O.S.S) fighting with the partisans behind enemy lines. He received two silver stars, one bronze star, one Italian Cross of War, four bronze ribbon stars, one Italian war medal and many other citations. He was a member of Sacred Heart Parish, VFW Post 755, O.S.S. Society and International Union of Operating Engineers. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife: Carrie M. Galassi; one daughter: Margaret Louise Foster; one brother: Silvio Galassi; and one sister: Dea Ushman. He is survived by one son: Joe Galassi of Springfield; one daughter: Jan (husband, Greg) Foster of Sherman; ten grandchildren; seven great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home from 5-8:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 17, 2001. Graveside Services will be at Camp Butler National Cemetery at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 18, 2001 where the Sangamon County Interveterans Burial Detail will conduct Honors.
