Eugene C. Kennedy

Eugene C. Kennedy, 86, of Springfield, died at 4:12 a.m. on Thursday, November 30, 2006 at Memorial Medical Center. Eugene was born on September 20, 1920 in Pittsburgh, PA, the son of Robert John and Margaret Loretta Gayton Kennedy. He married Lillian D. Ray on June 10, 1944 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church. He was a WWII U.S. Air Force Veteran. He was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus Councils #364 and #4175. He was also a member of the Romeo Breakfast Club (Retired Old Men Eating Out). He served as a Eucharistic Minister at Memorial Medical Center for many years. Eugene retired from the U.S. Postal Service where he had been employed as a clerk for forty years. He was preceded in death by two infant sons: Michael and Dennis He is survived by his wife, Lillian D. Kennedy of Springfield; two sons: Timothy P. (wife, Jean) Kennedy of Springfield and Kevin C. (wife, Mary) Kennedy of Danville; one daughter Barbara J. (husband, Burt) Fairchild of Orlando, FL and seven grandchildren. The family welcomes friends to visit from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 3, 2006 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St. Springfield. Visitation will begin with a Prayer Service at 4:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, December 4, 2006 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 2000 Sangamon Avenue, Springfield, Rev. Donald J. Meehling celebrant and Rev. Mark Schulte, VF concelebrant. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
