She was born on November 21, 1935, in Springfield, IL, the daughter of George and Maxine (Cripe) Reisch. Jeanne married John “Jack” McCarthy on January 8, 1955, at St. Agnes Catholic Church. He preceded her in death, on October 31, 2018.
Jeanne graduated from St. Agnes Grade School and Sacred Heart Academy. She was a long-time and active member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church where she attended Mass daily. Jeanne was a wonderful cook whose Christmas spreads and fried chicken were legendary. She was an accomplished bridge player and spent countless evenings playing cards with her neighbors on South Glenwood Ave. Most importantly, Jeanne lived for God and her family. Having lost her mother at the age of 10 and being raised by her Nana, she dedicated her life to loving and caring for her husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was never happier than rocking a baby and was known affectionately as “the baby whisperer.” She was the ultimate role model, teacher and nurturer and cherished her roles of wife, mother, grandma and nonna.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; and son, John McCarthy, Jr.
Jeanne is survived by her daughter, Michelle McCarthy of Springfield; sons, Timothy (Rose) and Michael McCarthy, both of Springfield; daughter-in-law, Leslie McCarthy; grandchildren, Katie (Steve) Blazis, Meghan (Derek) Pygott, and John (Amanda) McCarthy, III; great-grandchildren, Ryleigh, Brady, Addie, Greyson, Haddie, and Remi; siblings, Catherine “Kit” Copeland, Marilyn Bush, and Elizabeth (Robert) Fox; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
