She was born in Haypress, IL, on May 29, 1935, the daughter of Beverly Joel and Lola Louise DeShasier Shaw. Imogene married Clarence Lee George on January 14, 1956, in White Hall, IL. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lee; and two brothers, Robert and Beverly.
"Family" defined our mother, grand-mother, great grand-mother and wife of Lee George, Evelyn Imogene George.
Imogene a/k/a "Gammie" devoted her entire life to taking care of, nurturing, and teaching us in her way the importance of family. She loved all of us very deeply. It was very important to her to stay connected and communicate with everyone in the family. Her conversations always centered around family members and their activities, whether it be a school event, a ballgame, a vacation, or just daily life activities. She always praised our successes, was proud of our achievements, and seemed to always have the right words for when we had failures.
All family gatherings, whether it was a Sunday dinner, a cookout, a birthday party or a holiday celebration, were very important to her. She cherished those times when we were all together.
Imogene loved her husband, Lee, was devoted to him, and missed him very much after his passing. Her love for him was the only selfish thing about her. Her only interest outside of the family was her flower garden, especially her roses.
Imogene's subtle and sometimes not so subtle way of teaching us the importance of family has enriched our lives, showed us how to always love one another, and made us all better human beings. It was her values, her passion and her love that will insure that we will stay together as a family and not drift apart. We will always be indebted to her for this for the remainder of our lives. And if we keep it going in the right way, it will go on for generations to come.
"Family", that is the legacy of Evelyn Imogene George a/k/a "Gammie”!
Imogene is survived by her sons, Clayton L. (Melanie) and Craig L. (Carla) George; grandchildren, Casey (Vince) Caliendo, Cale (Bailey) George, and Chelsey (Jake) Thompson; and great-grandchildren, Elijah, Silas, Renna, Theodore, Evyanna Caliendo and Leo George.
Private family services will be held at Butler Funeral Home - Springfield, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield.
