Evelyn Caroline (Kusch) Hoffman, 94, earned her wings on April 7, 2015 in Broomfield, Colorado, to join her beloved husband Stuart William Hoffman who passed on January 22, 1995. Evelyn was born on October 20, 1920 in Springfield, Illinois. She was the only child to Anna Marie Markgref and Fred Kusch. Fred, a German immigrant, was a coal miner, a gas station owner and, in his final years, a sheet metal worker at Schmidt Bros. Anna, whose mother and father also emigrated from Germany in 1881 was a housewife. Evelyn graduated from Feitshans High School with honors in 1938. After high school, Evelyn attended and graduated from Business School. Evelyn and Stu were married on July 7, 1951. Evelyn worked as a bookkeeper and administrative assistant at Schmidt Bros., The Lamplighter Hotel, and at Memorial Medical Center. Her passion and celebration of life was in her volunteer work at St John's Lutheran Church in Springfield. Evelyn was a member of the Altar Guild, Women's Circle, Church Council, Bible school, and missionary support. She began teaching Sunday school at the age of 16, and was recognized by St. John's on November 1, 1998, to honor her for 62 years of teaching. Not too long after Stu passed, she moved to Madison, Wisconsin to be with her son and daughter-in-law. She was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and rooted for the Badgers and Green Bay Packers. About 5 years later, the family moved to the Denver, Colorado area. In Broomfield, Evelyn was a member of Cross of Christ Lutheran Church, attended Bible study, enjoyed the mountain scenery, spending time with her grandson Angel, and rooted for the Colorado Rockies. Evelyn was a beautiful soul whose presence on this earth will be greatly missed. She was patient, humble and kind, and handled everything that came her way with grace and acceptance. She treated everyone with compassion and lived her life the way God asked of her. Her family is comforted by the knowledge that she is now with the Lord, whom she served so well. Evelyn is survived by her son, Christian Hoffman, and daughter-in-law, Samantha Hoffman of The Woodlands, Texas; cousins, Carlene and Lloyd Dixon of Springfield; nieces Marsha Jaeggi, of Rochester; and Holly Trello of Texas; and many wonderful supportive family and friends. Her husband, Stu, and grandson, Angel Dean Hoffman, preceded her in death.
