Evelyn was born in Springfield, December 6, 1937 the third child of McKinley “Mac” and Marguerite (Morrell) Harshaw. She married James A. “Jim” Lageman Sr., in 1959 and he preceded her in death in 1992. She was also preceded in death by a sister Janet Harshaw and her parents.
Evelyn was a devoted, loving mother and wife. Her family was her focus throughout her life. Jim was an engineer with IBM Corporation and his career placed them in various cities during his tenure there.
Evelyn made friends quickly and became very involved in her children’s activities and her church. She retired from Horizon Vision Care in Charlotte, NC and spent many hours volunteering at her church.
After Jim passed away suddenly, Evelyn returned to Springfield to be near her siblings. She transferred her membership to St. John’s Lutheran Church, ELCA where she became very active, making new friends and found her joy in serving others. She was a member of the church finance committee, serving as a counter, and was also a member of the Stephen Ministry there. She supported the ministries and staff at St. John’s helping wherever she was needed.
Surviving are her three children; Robert W. “Bob” Lageman of Parker, CO, James A. “Jim” (wife Patti) Lageman Jr., of Howard PA, and Janet M. Lageman of Glen Aubrey, NY. There are eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She is also survived by her two sisters; Patsy “Pat” Harshaw and Kathie Clark, two brothers; Wayne (wife Donna) Harshaw and Charles “Charlie” (wife Beverly) Harshaw, all of Springfield. She has several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Family and friends are welcomed to a visitation from 4-6 pm Thursday, Nov. 15, 2018 in the chapel at Concordia Village 4101 W. Iles Springfield. A memorial Service will be held at 10:30 am Friday, Nov. 16, 2018 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 2477 W. Washington St. Springfield, IL. Pastor’s Greg Busboom, Pam Mitcham and Adam Connolly will officiate. Inurnment will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Charlotte, NC. At a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to St. John’s Lutheran Church or Concordia Village Benevolent Fund.
