Floyd "Gene" Gasparin

Floyd was born July 26, 1935, in Springfield, the son of Florian “Floyd” Antonio and Geraldine Durbin Gasparin. He married Barbara Crabb on February 2, 1957, in Springfield.

Floyd attended Feitshans High School and proudly served his country in the U.S. Naval Reserves. He owned and operated his own trucking and demolition business. Floyd was previously employed as a contract driver for the SJ-R for 35 years, a farmer, and a mechanic. He played poker every Wednesday with the same group of gentlemen for over 35 years and was a lifelong member of the NRA. In his younger years, he was a race car driver and boxer. Floyd loved animals, enjoyed hunting in Colorado, was an outdoorsman, and loved fishing, but his greatest passion was his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, whom he adored, Barbara Gasparin of Springfield; his children, Tina (husband, Dale) Swann, Nino (wife, Jennifer) Gasparini, and Jadina Gasparin, all of Springfield; grandchildren, Angelina (husband, Brian) Beam of Glen Carbon, Adam Bloodworth of Rochester, Anthony (wife, Lindsey) Swann of Maryville, Sophia Gasparin of Springfield, and Gianina and Vincenzo Gasparini, both of Springfield; great-grandchildren, Matthew Lowe and Theodore and Benjamin Swann; sister, Antoinette (husband, Jim) Marx of Springfield; brother, James Gasparin of Springfield; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 26, 2020, at Boardman-Smith Funeral Home, 800 South Grand Ave West, Springfield. Visitation will begin with a prayer service at 4:00 p.m.

Funeral Mass: 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 27, 2020, at St. Katharine Drexel Parish at Sacred Heart Church, 730 S. 12th St., Springfield with Rev. James E. Isaacson, S.J.C., celebrant.

Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
