

Frances Eva “Sas” Hogan, 92, of Springfield, died at 7:55 a.m. Monday, September 22, 2003 at St. John’s Hospital. Frances was born October 16, 1910 in Springfield, the daughter of Joseph and Sadie Bachhelm Carroll. She married Byron F. “Bus” Hogan, at St. Agnes Catholic Church; he preceded her in death September 12, 1971. Mrs. Hogan was a graduate of Springfield High School. She was a homemaker and co-owner of Hogan’s Tavern on MacArthur Blvd. She was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church and a former member of Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. She loved to play bingo and had played at Knights of Columbus several times a week. She was an excellent pianist and had played with area orchestras. She was also preceded in death by her parents; one son: Michael Hogan; one daughter: Carol Hogan Reese; one brother: Joseph Carroll and one sister: Virginia Rhule. She is survived by one daughter: Patricia Matlack of Springfield; seven grandchildren: Nancy Ward and Bill Matlack, Jr. both of Springfield, Michael Reese of Lafayette, LA, Susan Bishop, Timothy Reese, Elizabeth Reese and Stephen Reese all of Mandeville, LA; eight great grandchildren; a sister: Helen Rachford of Springfield and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call at Christ the King Catholic Church from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Thursday, September 25, 2003. Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, September 25, 2003 at Christ the King Catholic Church with Rev. Msgr. David S. Lantz celebrant. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1305 Wabash, Suite J., Springfield, IL 62704 or St. John’s Hospital, Hospice Program, 800 E. Carpenter, Springfield, IL 62702.
